I did my own Goddess Locs and this happened…

Disclaimer: I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL. I DO NOT DO OTHER PEOPLE’S HAIR OR MY OWN HAIR FOR THAT MATTER. SO OBVIOUSLY THESE ARE NOT PERFECT. I AM JUST A BROKE GIRL WHO DIDNT WANT TO SPEND $2OO FOR GODDESS LOCS.

If you can remember from the last post one of my biggest goals for this year was to do my own hair. After scouring the web extensively for a new look. Within a couple of minutes, I found myself reverting to the same thing: Goddess Locs.

Obviously I found this hairstyle extremely intimidating to replicate. However, after talking to my friends, giving myself many pep talks and watching dozens of YouTube videos I went out and bought my materials.

Images that inspired me to get locs

Classes weren’t going to start for another week so I was in the perfect setting. There was no need to be rushed at all. Which was perfect because I knew I would need a couple of days to make mistakes and cry in frustration if need be.

Even though I really was entranced looking at these hairstyles for hours I still had a huge feat: Actually doing it.

The Process

I started off with plaiting my hair in the desired parting. I made the parting boxed shaped and this took a whole entire day. The only downfall is that I really liked my parting but realized I didn’t make the middle of my head as full as I wanted. Obviously that could have been because I was trying to part the back of my head with a tiny hand-held mirror. But oh well I made it work. By the time, I was finally done with plaiting my hair it was 3 am and my arms felt like this:

Then there was day 2. Now I can honestly say this was a nightmare. I watched the video many times before doing my hair and it seemed simple enough. But when I actually started wrapping my hair it started looking more like twists than locs. I kept redoing them and couldn’t figure it out until the end of the day.

Result

There are a couple locs on the back of my head that are not as clean and kept getting unloose. Also, I noticed I didn’t make as many parts to get my hair to the level of fullness that I really hoped for. However, I still loved how they turned out and I’m actually excited to do these again soon; maybe for spring break. Here was the finished look.

The only good picture of how I styled them!

Here is a video I made with my friend on how to style your goddess locs so I hope you enjoyed that and make sure to share!

Wow!! You did such a great job for your first time. I might consider to braid my own hair now.
