Lex’s Summer 2019 Guide

YASSSSS the best season of the year has finally arrived! That means emptying out your photo gallery of homework you never looked at, trashing every single one of your worksheets, and start bringing out your tube tops baby.

It’s crazy that I’m halfway through college meaning im halfway closer to being an adult…lol yikes. Well, first thing first let’s start making does summer goals!

Summer Goals

The perfect way to make sure this is your best summer yet is to jot down some goals. For me, My main goal is to use this summer to relax, write and read a lot. I plan on taking summer school starting from June, working a part-time job and also get some medical shadowing done. But what is work with no play? Hopefully, I can focus on my blog more before school gets to me, hang out with friends and take some cute pics while I’m at it. As you can see I will be very productive this summer and if you’re stuck on what to do this upcoming break I have a couple of suggestions.

Take some summer classes/Learn something

Me being the nerd I am I like to use these long breaks to learn something new. I know it sounds weird but this is the perfect time to teach yourself something you’ve always been curious about. Let’s say you want to get ahead and take a couple of classes over the break. Use the summer as a great way to knock out some credits. Summer school also doesn’t have to be a way for you to catch up. But maybe learn something you probably always been interested in such as banking, stocks, writing, etc.

Websites such as MIT OpenCourseWare and Coursera are really cool online tools I have used in the past as awesome resources to learn plus it’s free!

Make a bomb summer playlist

You can’t have a good summer without a good summer playlist. I know for me the perfect playlist includes some Afrobeats, slow R&B, and a splash of punk-pop. Songs such as New Apartment by Ari Lennox and Tadow by Masego have been the perfect “emerging 20-year-old” vibes that I’ve been feeling lately and Ray BLK Doing Me has me looking at life in a new nonchalant way. I kind of set up a couple of songs that I will be playing on repeat this summer. Disclaimer: This isn’t all my music. I mostly use Apple Music to stream and not Spotify, but I like to think that I shared a good idea of what kinds of music I will be playing this summer based off of this playlist.

Catch up on some summer reading and TV shows

I am so happy this semester is over because that means I can finally binge on all the Netflix shows I have been missing. Right now I am currently watching All American, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Oh, and can we talk about EndGame and how I never ugly cried so much in a public theater until I saw that movie??? Two words. Life Changing.

With books, I’ve been trying to branch out to different genres and not just read African American literature but I honestly dont think I have been doing that great of a job. Here are some books I’ve got on my to-do list to read this summer.

Part-time job or travel

Studying abroad is an awesome way to explore the world. If you are privileged enough to leave the country, take advantage of that. It’s honestly a blessing to be able to see and experience God’s creation. But hey if you are like me and you are stuck in the states…rack up them coins. Save up some money for a future trip or something else you have been craving to get. Right now im currently saving up for some new bundles. Don’t judge me.
