It has been a minute since I last posted something and a lot of factors have contributed to that. School, my social life, work, you name it. Since I have been so out of touch I want to just talk about what I’ve been up to lately. I actually like the idea of keeping you guys updated with my life so this won’t be the last you’ll see of these “currently” posts.

Currently Listening to

A lot of music has been hitting me left and right these past couples of months, and this year new artists are thriving!  I hate to be basic and say that my preference for music is very eclectic so there’s nothing I won’t listen to…..except country. God Forbid. So let’s talk about Solange.

The fact that she dedicated this album to Houston, was enough to get me jumpin. Then she went ahead and destroyed my life with this visual film. SIS DID NOT COME TO PLAY. Solange is constantly reminding everyone how beautiful black people are with her work and this project is no exception.

In other news, I have decided to switch up my music taste a bit. I’m proud to say that I tend to stick to my old school R&B and classics from Queen music preference (Depressed that Bohemian Rhapsody didn’t win Best Picture *teardrop *). Stepping out into new music is not something I do often, but once in a while, I like to see what’s out there. I made a playlist to showcase new music I have been currently listening to and it was actually pretty fun, so expect more handmade playlists in the future.

Currently Watching

I recently just finished “I am not your Negro” on Amazon Prime.  The film was quite memorable in that it talked about the African American struggle through the perspective of James Baldwin. James Baldwin, who is the author of “If Beale Street Could Talk” started this project, but never finished it before his death in 1987. However,  that didn’t stop Raoul Peck from finishing the vision he knew Baldwin wanted to tell. From the haunting voice of Samuel L. Jackson to the chilling recollections of Baldwin’s three friends: Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr, and Medgar Evans; “I am not your Negro” shines a light on real cultural history.

Now to something much lighter

A show I have been in LOVEEE with lately is “Blackish”. This is my go-to show for all my lunch breaks between classes and Mid-night laughs.  This is a series you don’t really need to binge on but can just take your time to appreciate the character dynamics and writing.  Most importantly it’s funny.  Funnier than parks and recs funny. If you’re not watching this show I don’t know what you’re doing. Oh! and I recently caught up on Game of Thrones so im ready for the season finale!

Currently Feeling

Honestly relieved. Its spring break. As I’m writing this right now  I’m currently chilling on my couch watching “The Voice”. I have a couple of plans in the mix for this break and I’m excited to come back next week and write some more about that.

Currently Reading

I am currently reading Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay and Baracoon: The story of the last black cargo by Zora Neale Hurston. Yall already know how much I love Roxanne Gay. Her novel “Difficult Women” was my favorite read of 2018 and I talk more about it in this post. Barracoon is a book I’m actually reading for my American Lit class. Its a nonfiction novel based on Zora Neale Hurston interview with Oluale Kossola; the last known survivor of the American slave trade.
