Thursday
We headed to Austin around 10 am from Waco. The car ride was fun but my friends were being petty and banned me from using aux. I wasn’t mad for long though because soon we were nodding our heads and singing along to some 2000’s Hip Hop. As Nicki Minaj’s Superbass filled the car speakers, we entered the interstate ramp and headed to our first destination: Mount Bonnell.
After hiking and a much-needed nap, we got ready for the Meg Thee Stallion concert. As soon as my friends and I got dropped off we saw a lot of people leaving because most of them couldn’t get in anyway. I looked over at my friends and we all exchanged this look like “dang we really about to take an L”. We stood there for a good minute contemplating our next move when an angel informed us that Meg was having an after party. We didn’t even hesitate before we were taking the next Uber over there. Room was packed with local Houstonians and good music. Meg made an appearance, which was obviously the highlight of my night.
Friday
Friday was a disaster. The weather was a lot colder than we liked and none of us wanted to go kayaking in windy 50 degrees weather. Instead, we spent the day exploring food trucks and looking at the different decorated buildings that littered the street and then went out for dinner. I will not get more detailed than that, because like I said before Friday was a mess, so I’m gonna skip the rest of this and jump straight to Saturday.
Saturday
Saturday definitely made up for Friday. We woke up and got ready for brunch around 2.
Then after brunch, we rented some scooters and rode around downtown Austin, damn near running over one another’s ankles. While riding around we stopped at many little stores, but one I absolutely loved was “Berry Austin”. It was this cute little authentic ice-cream shop that was very retro and cool. Plus a nice place to sate my sweet tooth.
We did decide to hit 6th street again and see if we can find a scene, but after what seemed like another unremarkable pursuit a miracle happened. This miracle in the shape of a concert club where you could clearly hear the sounds of Afrobeats a mile away. Half of my friends had already left by this point, so this was almost the validation we needed that we weren’t stupid for not leaving with them. As we entered the club me and my friends were so scared they would ID us and find out we weren’t 21. Thankfully the bouncers didnt care and with a small fee of $5 we were able to to see Adekunle Gold on stage and end our Saturday night with a bang.
Hopefully, next Spring break could be out the country?
